  Britain | Jehovah's Witnesses hushed up child sex scandal | July 16, 2013

  church officials hushed up a child sex scandal in their ranks and refused to co-operate with police.. .

  jehovah witness ministerial servant gordon leighton admitted sexually abusing a child when he was confronted by his church elders, a court heard.. but during the official police investigation, the 53-year-old who made headlines in the 1990s when wife yvonne, 28, died after refusing a blood transfusion after childbirth on religious grounds denied any illegal wrongdoing.. and when detectives asked elders simon preyser, harry logan and david scott to make statements about the confession, all three refused and said what they had heard was confidential.. for three years, the elders refused to co-operate with the criminal investigation and kept up that stance when the case was brought before newcastle crown court after the victim made a complaint to police.. each was issued with a witness summons which they fought to overturn before being ordered to testify by judge penny moreland citing public interest.. their barrister richard daniels said the men had a duty to god not to breach confidence.. he added: privileged communication between members of the congregation and ministers is an absolute right and duty and there is no power in law to breach such a confidence.. judge moreland said: it is apparent that the three elders who were present when this conversation took place are in possession of relevant evidence as to a point which is of real significance in this case.. they claim the right of confidentiality, they claim that what they heard said by the defendant during the course of that meeting ought to be subject to privilege, as ministers of religion.. judge moreland refused to withdraw the summonses and said: public interest is clearly in favour of this evidence being given.. what was said by the defendant on that occasion is of great significance in the trial.. despite the judges ruling, the men still refused to make statements to police until just hours before they were called before the jury.. leighton, who has since been expelled from the church at lambton kingdom hall in washington, denied two charges of indecency with a child and seven of indecent assault.. he was yesterday found guilty of two charges of indecency with a child and six of indecent assault.

  he was found not guilty of one indecent assault charge, on the direction of the judge.. he was remanded in custody until he is sentenced next month but warned he is facing a lengthy spell behind bars.. prosecutor katherine dunn told the court the victim, who is now an adult, broke her silence in 2009.. the court heard how at a special church meeting, leighton admitted sexual abuse and made excuses for his behaviour.. miss dunn said: the elders conducted their own investigation.

  In many instances or perhaps MOST, the pedophile makes friends with the parents and in reality grooms THEM to gain access to children. They have patience and make plans that can take years to work out. By the time they finally get their hooks into the child and scare them into secrecy, the parents are so trusting and fond of the perpetrator they cannot BELIEVE they have been so thoroughly deceived and tricked. Pedophiles are the best actors living on earth. Also they are sociopaths which means they have NO CONSCIENCE and recognize no authority higher than themselves. If they decide to do something then in their mind there is nothing wrong with it.

  If a pedophile ever expresses remorse over anything, it is only to serve their own purposes. A pedophile believes it is perfectly right and beneficial to a child to perform sex with an adult. They do NOT believe they are doing any harm to the child whatsoever.

  Many people actually think that a pedophile can change, simply because of some verse in the Bible that mentions "that is what some of you were." However that just does not apply to pedophiles. They will never change, a pedophile does not see any reason to change because they think they are RIGHT!

  Society IS overrun by child rapists! "Overrun" - seems to suggest that a few child rapists would be acceptable but if we have frequent reports of child rape then we're OVERRUN! Language is powerful.

  ONE child molester is intolerable, let alone the massive numbers threatening children in more ways than most people can imagine.

  Fading & Feeling Lost ... Part 2

  sorry to keep dragging this on ... but this is really the only place to vent right?

  so basically it's going on 4 months now that we've had zero meeting attendance, and for the last 2 months we have not reported any service time (prior to that, when our service group overseer would send a text asking for our time, we would report 4 hours each, for our "family study").

  in my last post, i talked about how we were having a really difficult time beginning a new life outside the organization.

  HIYA, What Now? !

  Just one idea for something that might be helpful. Schools love volunteers, I don't know about Canada but I imagine they are the same.

  Maybe you could go once a week to the school where your child will be attending in a couple years. Get familiar with them and the staff and parents can get to know you.

  Here where we are, the kids who have volunteer parents active in the school, really get treated the best and get attention and help from their teachers. The staff has a better attitude towards those kids, possibly unintentionally but i've seen it and it is true.

  You could be a teacher's helper, maybe listening to kids read to you, or helping out in the lunch room with little kids. They never have enough helpers. I've seen little kids with their hand up for 10 minutes at a time before one of the helpers came over and opened up whatever it was for them.

  Or you could even be making presentations to the classrooms about your musical talent or art, things like that.

  I love the way kids want to learn and how much they need adults to appreciate them and encourage them in school. The kids remember those helpful people their whole lives.

  I really need some help to get out of this religion

  hi, i've been lurking on this site for quite a while after recently having doubts about the "truth".

  i've read a lot of posts about problems with the doctrines, mind control, the beliefs, brainwashing that jehovah's witnesses and their literature, as well as their history.

  now only being a sixteen year old born in who isn't baptized or unbaptized, i've come to find all this information incredibly overwhelming.

  Do what you must to survive, you are NOT bad for doing that. Always keep in mind that your life BELONGS to YOU and you also OWN the RIGHT to be who you are and do what YOU want to do with YOUR LIFE.

  Anything that contradicts that is a LIE!!!

  Many people cannot bear to admit to themselves that they have been in a mind-controlling cult. Read the definitions of mind control! The WT is a cult and they control people's thinking.

  Child abuse sexual or otherwise is a horror nightmare. It RUINSlives. Governments send armies overseas to protect entire countries but whether or not to report child abuse is too big a problem to make a decision about.

  Put yourself in a child's place who is forced to do sex acts with an adult. How do you feel, maybe hopeless and powerless and confused?

  Decent adults have got to be responsible and think of children first, defend children FIRST, then worry about precious reputation of the F*****g WT, who by the way does not worry about anyone else's reputation, i can tell you that first hand.

  This is awful and this mom will regret that she did this.

  She says nobody can make her do anything, that it's all of her own will. I would bet that she is getting all kinds of flack and dirty looks because she delayed in cutting off her son, and that is how she WAS made to do it.

  my mom's lover would bring his handsome youngest son, to our house, and along with my dad, would study with my brother, sister and i. wed 7 pm.. next an elder's wife, who was a regular pioneer and worked part-time, who had a daughter my age, came to our house, after school wed. ruth was the head of the house and wore the pants.

  her husband was part of the 3 men who sat on all judicial committees in our congo and would tell ruth everything, which in turn ruth would tell the sister's.

  ruth was very pious but at the age of 15 gave birth to her only child, and beat on her daughter all the time, never letting her forget what "trouble" her only daughter caused her.

  A fine Bethelite couple called on us for over a year, then we started studying. We liked them and we didn't have many friends to speak of. Before long we were attending all the meetings.

  Fast forward 30 years, none of us have anything to do with WT. Many, many hurtful things happened. We have learned many expensive lessons. But we're doing okay with normal living. We still don't have friends, but at least we're not lying to ourselves that we have FRIENDS.
